Data Mining: Methods and Applications in Insurance and Finance

Jerry Friedman and Glenn Stone, two leaders in the field, will conduct a one-day interactive workshop focusing on important tools and methods for the Insurance and Finance sectors. The workshop will be followed immediately by an international conference on statistics in business, industry and finance.

Outline
  1. Overview of key problems in finance and insurance typically tackled with data mining techniques segmentation
  2. Data Mining techniques - Supervised methods: Trees, MART, random forests, support vector machines, etc.

To register for ISBIS4 One day Workshop please complete the ISBIS4 Registration form and pay the fee. Registering early will save you money, and also help us to organize things better!

The deadlines for registration are February 4, 2005 (early) and after April 6, 2005 (on site).

You may register by faxing or mailing your registration form to the Registration Office at the Action M Agency.

Payment

Cancellation
The One day Workshop registration fee deducted of $50 will be refunded for all written cancellations sent to Action M Agency no later than March 11, 2005. After that date no refund of registration fee will be provided.

Instructors
Jerome H. Friedman is Professor of Statistics, Stanford University. He has authored or co-authored over 50 papers in major statistical journals as well as two books on Data Mining. He has won several honours including Fellow of the American Statistical Association, Paper of the year in the Journal of the American Statistical Association (1980 and 1985) and Technometrics (1988 and 1992), American Statistical Association Statistician of the year (1999), Association for Computing Machinery Data Mining Lifetime Innovation Award, and the Emanuel and Carol Parzen Prize for Statistical Innovation.

Glenn Stone is currently Leader of Bioinformatics for Human Health at CSIRO's Mathematical and Information Sciences Division. He has a PhD in Statistics from the University of Bath and an advanced degree in Computer Science. He has spent many years in applied data mining roles including leading a group of ten statistician and machine learners at CSIRO, and in research at the Insurance Australia Group, Australia's largest general insurer.
