The Barron River flows through the Barron Gorge just 20 minutes from Cairns. This river is a fantastic introduction to white water rafting for anyone who has not experienced the thrill. The rapids are exciting but easy and the scenery is superb. The river is dam controlled, providing a constant water level for three hours of fun in this beautiful national park so close to Cairns. When you have conquered the Rooster Tail you will paddle through the tranquil waters of Lake Placid and view the beautiful scenery before enjoying a light lunch beside Lake Placid. All safety equipment included (life jackets & helmets worn). Experienced and professional white water rafting guides and safety crew. The Tully River south of Cairns is the perfect spot for a full day' s rafting. Rafting takes place at the upper gorge of the Tully River ensuring loads of action and fun. Excitement builds as you tackle world famous rapids like Alarm Clock Falls and Wet'n'Moisty! Enjoy a barbecue lunch on the banks of the river and a chance to take in the spectacular scenery before hitting the foaming white water for afternoon action. This is one of the longest-established wildlife attractions in Far North Queensland as well as being a working crocodile farm producing skins and meat. The farm dates back to the great depression of the 1930's. It is also one of the first places in Australia to hold crocodile shows and is renowned for presenting 'the Best Crocodile Show in Australia'. This unique attraction also features koalas, kangaroos, cassowaries, dingos, snakes, reptiles and other Australian species. On specially constructed boats, you will be up close and personal with the Australian Saltwater Crocodiles, while your guide explains the fascinating facts about these prehistoric reptiles. Other activities include: Wetland Wildlife - help the keeper feed turtles, fish & water birds, whilst learning about the significance of wetland ecosystems. Cassowary Feeding - Learn about these magnificent endangered rainforest birds and watch them devour tropical fruits. Crocodile Farm Tour - Gain an insight into the operation of our crocodile farm. Learn how farming contributes to the conservation of wild crocodiles and their habitat. The highlight of the visit will surely be the Crocodile Attack Show - "the best in Australia". Kuranda Scenic Rail It's all aboard the scenic railway for a great 90-minute adventure that began with the commencement of construction of the railway in 1886. Passengers will be amazed at the tremendous engineering feat and in awe of the 1,500 men who tackled jungle, mountains and escarpments with only hand tools for the five years it took to complete the line. The train winds through lush tropical rainforests on rugged mountain ridges, over deep gorges and across roaring waterfalls. Arrive at the top of the range at picturesque Kuranda station, which boasts a fabulous collection of ferns. There is plenty of time to explore Kuranda Village. Skyrail The Rainforest Cableway is just a short coach ride away. This spectacular trip takes you over the Kuranda Range through the treetops of World Heritage rainforest. There are two stops along the way, where clients may disembark and take a walk along a rainforest board walk or discover the CSIRO Environmental Interpretation Centre with touch screen information centres and educational narratives about the ecological balance of the rainforest and its flora and fauna.
As per tour 8 above, with an extension at Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park A park dedicated to preserving and presenting authentic Aboriginal culture with the aid of the most modern technology. 5 theatres, a museum, an art gallery and a traditional Aboriginal camp combine to give visitors meaningful glimpse of the rich and ancient Aboriginal culture. Separate but interwoven shows run continuously through out the day. We allow 2 hours for the total experience. This park combines perfectly with a visit to Kuranda. These vehicles are fun for all standards. After a quick briefing and safety lesson it's off into the rainforest to tackle winding tracks, steep slopes and rivers. All Terrain Vehicles are the "Ultimate Fun Machines". Whether you're fast or slow, what a fabulous way to see the pristine rainforest and harsh bush land this area has. Deep into the bushland, your guide will take you, pointing out some of the most fascinating aspects of the rainforest.
