y-BIS Workshop

A half-day y-BIS Developmental workshop will be held on Monday July 5, 2010, organised by Dr Ron Wasserstein (Executive Director of the American Statistical Association).

The workshop should be of great value not only for young statisticians embarking on, or contemplating embarking on, a career as an industrial statistician, but also for young academic statisticians who are interested in interacting with business and industry.

Topics to be covered will include

• Issues and challenges facing industry statisticians
• Soft skills: how to manage client interactions, comments on technical writing, ...
• Handling ethical issues that arise in consulting
• Educational issues: what are the principal needs of statisticians as they enter industry; what sort of continuing education is needed by industrial statisticians
• Professional accreditation: what is it, and how can it help statisticians during their careers?

Other presenters will include Dr Sastri Pantula, who will be the ASA President at the time of the conference.
